The Manor House B&B

Aiskew, Bedale

the manor house - aiskew

Rated the number one B&B in Bedale from Trip advisor, The Manor House in Aiskew is one of our favourite places to stay.

The Manor house is an impressive looking building, part of it dates back to the 17th Century, the property stands in beautiful South facing gardens with a terrace for your enjoyment in the English sunshine.

Run by Sue & George Sinclair the B&B has a lovely warm inviting feel, they have 3 guest bedrooms that are all en suite and breakfast is served around their large dining room table.

"What a welcome! Pot of tea and cakes in front of a 'roaring fire' And that was only the start. Hosts Sue and George are so friendly and welcoming they put you at ease straight away. Manor House is an extremely welcoming home and our bedroom (pine room) was well appointed overlooking a private courtyard, and was extremely comfortable with stylish en suite. Breakfast was served in the large dining room which is very impressive. George makes a fantastic breakfast and the food is good local produce served piping hot ! Why go anywhere else? You won't be disappointed"

"Impossible to fault. A beautiful house in a wonderful location. Sue & George Sinclair are the perfect hosts. The rooms are superb with lovely comfortable beds

The residents lounge has a wood burning stove, very welcoming on these cold winter evenings. And George cooks a fantastic breakfast. Cannot fault in any way."

"Bedale is a wonderful place to enjoy the Dales and the many historic sites of North Yorkshire. The Manor House is a delightful period house. The Drawing room is wonderful and the my huge bedroom was equally so. It was also very comfortable. The breakfast was magnificent. I particularly recommend the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon.

The main reason for staying there though is the unending kindness and patience of George and Sue who went far beyond the call of duty to look after me. Use of their computer and printer, endless cups of tea and coffee and the offer to drive me to the Station when the bus failed me."

Enjoy The Beach at The Bay Filey!

106 Sunrise Drive

We recently visited 106 Sunrise Drive at The Bay Filey, as a family of 4 with 2 children aged 6 & 4.

filey 1

The house is a large spacious end property with 2 bedrooms, parking right outside, a modern open plan kitchen and lounge, 2 bathrooms and lots of seaside charm!

The Bay at Filey is a new development, started approximately 2 years ago it is redesigning the British holiday, situated next to Primrose Valley along the top of the cliff leading down to the beach.

The house itself is a 2 minute walk (if that!) from the Italian Cafe - Serving ice cream, coffees and pizzas! The pub is next door to the cafe with live music on a weekend and a pub quiz every wednesday and situated behind it is the new large indoor swimming pool and gym along with a small play park for kids.

The beach is approximatley 15 minutes walk or you can drive down to the beach in 5 minutes.

When we arrived we were greeted by a welcoming warm home, very clean and modern. With a brand new central heating system that meant even in the depths of winter we could get all toasty and warm! There are DVDs to borrow and the TV has freeview. The kitchen is great, there is a cupboard stocked with essentials if you forget anything and all you need to do is replace it before you leave. A kitchen table that seats 4 made dining easy and the house had everything that was needed to cook up delicious family meals.

The bedrooms are modern with a large king size bed in one and twin beds in the other, the bathroom had a nice deep bath and a shower.

The house comes with free access to the gym and swimming pool which was great!

There are lots of things to do in the surrounding area, donkeys and amusements in Scarborough and a great time was had by all up at Scarborough Castle followed by Wackers for lunch!

There are some amazing restaurants nearby including Saffron in Bridlington.

Filey is a quaint town with many shops, a beautiful beach and an outdoor paddling pool for children in summer.

All in all we had an amazing time and we will take away some wonderful family memories.

The Bay, Filey are currently offering 25% off any 3 or 4 night stays in February making a 3 night stay just £150.

Holiday Like A Hobbit in Yurtshire

Thursday (13December) sees the UK cinema release of The Hobbit – An Unexpected Journey.

To celebrate, Yurtshire has announced it’s launching a new, permanent site at Camp Hill in Bedale, North Yorkshire next March.

Yurtshire started in 2011 and gives people wanting to holiday in the ‘Shire’ an opportunity to be at one with nature whilst enjoying home comforts.

Tom Sterne from Yurtshire said: “It’s all about staying in the Shire and enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the Yorkshire Dales.

“Our handcrafted yurts all have steam bent ash beams and a unique round top solid oak door. The chic interiors are both rustic and cosy. Each yurt is furnished with a double bed and both a double and single futon, ideal for group holidays.”

In the true nature of Hobbit living, each yurt has its own private compost/sawdust toilet and solar shower bag. They also have a wood-burning stove, barbeque and a shared hot tub.

To keep with camping traditions, the yurts don’t have electricity but lanterns, candles and torches are provided. This together with the warm glow of the wood burning stove, fire pits and barbeque all add to the romantic ambience and truly magical experience of staying in a yurt.

Tom continued: “At Yurtshire our concept is simple - beautiful yurts with comfortable facilities in stunning landscapes. With all the hype of The Hobbit and exploring the great outdoors, we thought it was the perfect time to announce the new Camp Hill site. We are extremely excited and look forward to welcoming guests next spring.”
