  Our Recommendation........

The Black Horse Inn offers everything you could want from a village pub in the North Yorkshire countryside – a warm welcome, a gorgeous building with bags of character, top quality food and drink, lovely rooms for an overnight stay, and a real community feel.

We believe a good pub should ‘think local’, and whether that’s by serving the community - hosting the village darts competition for example – or by serving up the very best in local produce, that’s what we aim to do.

Both at our bar and in our restaurant, our food showcases the abundance of great ingredients available almost on our doorstep. Nowhere more so than with our popular Speciality Boards – wooden blocks topped with a selection of the very best local produce, from house-cured salmon to fine British cheeses, or even our homemade scotch eggs.

The food showcases the abundance of great ingredients available and with the appointment of Adrian Knowles as Head Chef at the restaurant, your appetite is sure to be persuaded. Adrian was previously Head Chef at the famous Black Bull Inn and Sous Chef at the Crab & Lobster.

Taking a confident approach to classic British dishes the team create wonderfully rustic dishes that are just as big on finesse as they are on flavour.

And because of our prices, you won’t have to empty your wallet just to fill your belly.

We visited the Black Horse and we have to say the evening was fabulous - here is our review - October 2012

"On our arrival at the Black Horse Inn at Kirby Fleetham, we were warmly greeted by our charming waitress Diana who guided us to the elegant bar dining area and to our table for the evening.

The restaurant was busy and buzzing with a really good atmosphere, Diana offered us a pre dinner drink, but we chose to look at the extensive menu first in order to decide what we would like to eat, we chose a crisp and fruity Chilean Sauvignon Blanc to accompany our meal which was delicious.

At this time a gentleman from Scotland on the next table, told us that he regularly stays at The Black Horse on business in one of the seven beautifully decorated rooms and he also brings his family to stay for little breaks, this was a lovely recommendation to start the evening.

We then studied the menu which had three sections, classic, signature & specials.

We chose starters from the classic menu, a light and flavoursome Twice Baked Souffle with Mrs Bell's Blue Saffron Poached Pear and a Hazelnut & Rocket Salad, along with Crispy Whitebait with Garlic & Dill Mayonnaise - both starters were excellent!

Our main dishes were chosen from the signature menu, Sauteed Calves Liver, served ever so slightly pink, with a tomato and thyme jus and a Baked North Sea Cod Chunk with a mussel and Clam Mouclade - both dishes were cooked to perfection.

Although at this time we were both satisfied, we did decide to try a pudding too! We tried 2 flavours of ice cream, Rum & Raisin and Vanilla and we also ordered the decadent Almond and Orange Chocolate Fondant which burst forth with a hot mouth watering liquid centre, accompanied by a caramelised orange & vanilla bean ice cream.

We rounded off the meal with some strong coffee.

The cost of the meal including wine was £78.00 for 2.

We enjoyed a fabulous evening and we shall certainly return again for another wonderful experience."
